Speakeasy
1939 W North Ave
Niche, musical, and comfortable.
I went here with a friend for the first time, and both of us absolutely fell in love with it.
You walk into what looks like a simple little record shop, and walk in the back towards the "Listening Booth", to see a beautifully lit, eccentrically decorated record-themed speakeasy.
The bartender was wonderful, the drinks (I had the Lonesome Cowboy) were delicious, and the ambiance was exactly what I'm looking for in a hidden bar.
We went on a Sunday night, shortly after Dorian's opened, and it was just the right amount of busy. A few chairs were full, people were conversing, but you could tell it the spot was much more popular during Friday and Saturday nights.
I'll be back here often - and there are even a few other speakeasies right in the same block radius. The Revel Room (which made into our honorable mentions list) and The Violet Hour.
My friend and I stopped into all three that Sunday, and we both agreed that Dorian's was our favorite. (Although the Violet Hour is also fabulous.)
You can check out their website at: http://throughtherecordshop.com/
According to their site, they have live performances and record DJs regularly, so if you're into music, this is a great spot.
