Lulu's Speakeasy

Speakeasy

712 N Clark St

Intimate, accurate, and relaxed.

This spot really did feel like a speakeasy, and they worked hard to brand and design it that way.

Lulu's is hidden under Storyville in River North - a lovely bar with a nice atmosphere. You enter like you normally would, and just to the left of where you ask to be seated, there's a stairway down.

It's intimate - there are maybe 4 tables, and 4 seats at the bar. It's small, and that adds to the vibe for me.

They serve a nice set of drinks - I had something frozen that was named something like "The Hurricane" - and it was delicious.

Food is served from the restaurant upstairs, and it all looked amazing, but I didn't end up ordering anything.

I brought two friends, and we all were just able to fit at the bar. The bartender understood the assignment, and fit the exact energy you would hope for from a tiny underground speakeasy.

I have no hangups about this spot, just that it might be tough to get in if you're not there at the right time.

Previously, I had come back 3 other times and missed the window, because they're open at weird times, or they're full, or they're hosting a small private event.

Lulu's is open on Thursdays from 11pm till close, and on Fridays and Saturdays from 7pm till close. Especially on a weekend, you'll want to show up right around when they open, or I doubt you'll find a table. If you're down with the bar, you can probably squeeze in a bit later.

Highly recommend this one - and you can check them out at: https://storyvillechicago.com/lulus-speakeasy/
