Diner food, bops, and a little grime.
It comes across very humble and honestly a little dumpy from the outside, but the bar itself is fabulous. They check IDs and vaccination cards before you walk in. There are two sections to the establishment - the seating area where you walk in, which is sort of like a dark diner with cushy diner booth seating, and a little cook area. I got waffle fries there, and I'll get into that in a second, but you can order diner food and drinks here.
To the right from when you walk in, up a few steps, is the bar area which is depicted in the image. It's beautiful, and most nights, it will be relatively crowded with small groups of hip people minding their own business, and looking good doing it. The bathrooms are in the back corner of the bar area, and the men's bathroom has a fun surprise in front of the urinals. I'm about to spoil it, so don't read the next sentence if you want to find out for yourself. (There's a one-way mirror that looks outside, and if you're drunk or high, it's a little disorienting before you realize what you're looking at.)
I ordered a drink and some waffle fries, and first off, the waffle fries were absolutely excellent. Your reliable, slightly greasy, delicious, perfect-for-when-you're-drunk kind of diner fries with ketchup. They paired well with the drink I got - and when I asked for the waitress's favorite rum drink on the menu, she served me the "Painkiller." A few other people in my group got it, and agreed it tasted like a piña colada. Maybe the P-ain K-iller was meant as a homage to P-iña C-olada, I don't know, but I do know it was delicious. :)
The music is a bit on the louder side, but the vibe is still relaxing, and it's even connected to a different bar in the back, though I didn't check it out myself. Overall, it feels slightly on the grimier side, but on purpose, because a little grime is cool. Highly recommend - a great time - and you can check out their website at: http://www.moneygunchicago.com/
