Speakeasy
15 E Ohio St
Delicious, casual, and hipster.
I love this spot - partly because it's neatly tucked in the back of the super inconspicuous ACME Hotel, and partly just because it's just my speed.
They have something on their drink menu that I especially love (and tried) called Dealer's Choice. You choose a spirit, flavor profile, and glassware and they make a drink up for you.
My glassware was the “rocks glass” and they gave me a big bougie clear ice cube - the drink was strong, and delicious. Can't complain about either of those qualities.
Overall, it's a very relaxed, incandescent lightbulb, copper pipes vibe - with a wide bar and lots of semi-private back seating for groups.
But this spot is a double whammy - because there's an even more private spot upstairs that's only open on Friday and Saturday nights called the "Bodega Bar".
Normally, I wouldn't classify The Berkshire Room itself as a speakeasy, but because of the inclusion of the Bodega Bar upstairs, this spot makes the true speakeasy list without a doubt.
I haven't had the opportunity to scope that spot out yet, but I'll be back to gather more information ASAP. I really like it here - and I highly recommend it. Plus, who doesn't want a totally new drink?
You can check out their website here: http://www.theberkshireroom.com/
EDIT: I managed to peek inside the Bodega Bar before the opened, and it looks like a fun modern living room! I'll be back to explore more - but I would imagine it would make for especially relaxed, fun conversation.
