Speakeasy
112 N Green St, Chicago, IL 60607
Tiny, tasty, and spicy.
When I say I'm obsessed with this spot, I mean it.
I've been only one time - and it's super hard to get in. Two friends and I showed up minutes after they opened, and there was already an hour long wait.
You can't make reservations, you have to show up, put in your name, and then be back on the dot when they text you to sit down.
In total, there are maybe 10 or 12 places to sit. It's tiny - but that made it more fun for me.
When I think of speakeasies, I usually think of a bar - somewhere to get a drink - but High Five Ramen is focused almost solely on noodles.
And damn do they do it well. I've been there once, and it was the best ramen I've had in Chicago so far. You can grab a drink, as well, but the menu is only 6 or 7 items - so come prepared to eat Ramen and nothing else.
I got the medium spice, and my face almost fell off - but it didn't stop it from being stupid delicious.
While you're waiting to get a seat, and you almost certainly will be, you're in West Loop - and there are a ton of other speakeasies nearby you can get a drink at.
One I like that's just across the street is Booze Box - hidden underneath Sushi Dokku. A few friends and I got a drink there, and then headed to High Five before moving on. It was a great night.
I'll be back here regularly if I can make it happen. I'll probably wuss out and step lower on the spice for my next bowl though.
